Pheme's Fashions

I am sooooo excited Spring is around the corner!  I will not miss the highs and lows of this fall season.  I have always adored springtime due to the blooming flowers, cool breezes, and of course my b-day! lol Yes, I am a spring baby! This is definitely my favorite time of the year :) More than anything, I look forward to wearing cute outfits such as the one in today's post.  This romper short set was designed by a friend of mine, Ms. Euphemia Fleming...b.k.a. Pheme. I met Pheme last year at a local fashion show.  She had recently moved to Houston from Indiana and informed me about her designs.  Her creations are specific with African imported fabrics.  Since Pheme is a Liberia native, she incorporates her roots within her designs.  I am sporting one of Pheme's many stylish outfits.  I paired the short set with an off-white lightweight sweater, brown hobo purse, and wedged sandals.  Other accessories include: brown/wooden jewelry and an Egyptian ankh necklace.

**Pheme plans to showcase her fashion sometime this summer.  She is looking for models, stylists, etc. For more information about her designs and the tentative show, you can contact her at: epheme.83fleming@gmail.com.**

My hair was pinned up all around with a side puff in back.  This is an easy style to create and my other "go to" when I need a break from the high puff.

Outfit Details Here:

Romper Short Set: Pheme's Fashion
Sweater|Wedges: Rainbow (old)
Purse: Express (old)
Jewelry: Egyptian Ankh necklace (Festival International de Louisiane) -old|earrings & bangles (local beauty supply store)

This past weekend, The Mocha Millennium Women partnered with Project 1855 to present "The Women of HBCU's Fashion Show, A Cream & Canary Affair." The show featured women (who were graduates of historically black colleges & universities) modeling fashion apparel from popular Houston boutiques and local designers.  The event was held at the Houston Museum of African American Culture.  Proceeds from the event will benefit students attending Texas Southern University (TSU) an Prarie View A& M with scholarship funding.

The fashion show celebrated everyday women with diverse professions.  They modeled the latest trends from Melodrama Boutique, Dame Elegante Boutique, Ankara Fashions, Kingdom Citizens Boutique, and BB Sexy Couture. Attendees not only enjoyed a great fashion show, but indulged in hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, and a party which followed.

Mocha Millennium Women is an organization dedicated to empowering women through fitness, philanthropy, and fashion.  Project 1855 is a non-profit organization which forms partnerships with other businesses to work toward eliminating/decreasing unemployment rates between African Americans and other ethnicities.  The two organizations joined forces in support of influencing and improving corporate/small business rapports within the African American community.

Graphic Tees & Sweaters IV

Hello again everyone!!! So, I've made it to my final post for the graphic tees & sweaters series!  I want to conclude with my faves...... comfy jeans and CHUCKS!! Yes, I am a long-time fan of the shoe!  I own about 10 pairs, both high tops and lows!!  I often mention my love of retro things, and these tennis shoes are a huge part of it!  I love the versatility of Chucks.  I can wear them grungy or girly! lol I chose the girly look for this post.  My hubby and I were out and about enjoying the beautiful day. This style is my preference for relaxed days. My baby doll tee has "beautiful" written across in addition to a great message which describes me to a T.  I paired my look with a sporty sweater (which is part of a set), and low-waist blue jeans cuffed at the bottom.  Other accessories include: my grey purse, button earrings, and pearl/silver accessories.  Tidbit: Think outside the box when sporting graphic t-shirts.  You can dress them up or down as I've shown. Don't be afraid to try something new and creative. That's what fashion is all about :)

My hair is pushed up in a blown out high puff.  This is the same braid out style from the previous post.  As you can see,  I have a bit more volume/definition than I do with my typical twist out style.  I am going to create more braid out looks from now on.

Outfit Details Here:

Sporty Sweater Top|Chuck Taylors: Academy
T-Shirt|Jeans: Ross
Purse: Express
Jewelry: Button earrings (MADE BY YOURS TRULY)| pearl bracelet (Forever XXI)|silver bracelet (old)

Graphic Tees & Sweaters III

Happy Monday everyone!  Today, I continue my 4 part series on graphic tees and sweaters.  This post is my favorite!  I adore my "CUZ I'M A LADY" t-shirt.  If you were a fan of the sitcom Martin like I was, then you'll know where this line comes from...that's right... Sheneneh!!  She made this statement on just about every single episode to which she appeared. Typically, I dress down playful graphic tees, but I decided to put a little spin on the phrase and make it fancy! lol  I paired the shirt with a gold sweater, black pencil skirt, fishnet stockings, and ankle strap pumps.  Other accessories include: grey purse, multi-colored button earrings, and pearl/silver bracelets.

My hair is in a braid out, which is another one of my favorite styles. When I want "big hair," I use a pick to raise and lift my hair from the root. Doing so adds more volume and provides a fuller look. I love rocking the BIG HAIR! It compliments and completes today's look :)

Outfit Details Here:

Sweater|Fishnet Tights: Rainbow
T-Shirt: Republic & Company
Skirt: Boohoo
Pumps: Burlington's (old)|similar here
Purse: Express
Jewelry: Button earrings (MADE BY YOURS TRULY)| pearl bracelet (Forever XXI)|silver bracelet (old)

Graphic Tees & Sweaters II

Hello all! Today, I continue my tee and sweater posts.  I am so sorry for the delay.  Last week, I had some sort of bug that prohibited me from doing just about anything.  I'm much better now and back on track :)  As I mentioned last week,  I just love graphic t-shirts!  Here is another one of my favorite tees (LOVE YOUR ROOTS)! It's my statement piece (literally) with style!  I purchased the shirt  last year at the Nzuri Festival from my trainer.  Confused? lol  My trainer is the owner of B. Natural Apparel and also Digg Deep Fitness.  She has retired the natural hair graphics business to focus on training and fitness.  I must say, I will miss the cute shirts she developed.  This is just one of many I purchased from B. Natural.  Anywho,  I decided to pair my tee with high-waist skinny jeans, knee-high boots, a leopard print purse, and of course my sweater! For days when I don't feel like putting much thought into my attire, I choose to wear cute graphic t-shirts with minimal accessorizing.

My hair is pushed up in a high puff style.  This was an old twist out that still had definition.  I used a Goody hair band to keep in tact.

Outfit Details here:

Sweater, Jeans, Boots: Rainbow
T-shirt: B. Natural Apparel
Purse: New York & Company (old)
Jewelry: Armband (Hot Topic)/Bracelet (Forever XXI)/Earrings (local beauty supply)

Good day everyone!  This week, I will share various ways to wear graphic t-shirts! I am a fan of sporting tees that make some sort of statement.  This has always been my own personal trend that I've worn for years!  I have more graphic shirts than I can count! lol  Today's post showcases how I decided to wear my Natural Girls Rock tee.  Underneath my shirt, I am wearing a chambray maxi dress.  It gives the illusion of a cropped tee and simple maxi skirt.  The shirt has a small knot in the back.  I also layered with a pink sweater.  Other accessories include: black/silver jewelry, patent leather quilted purse, and glitter zebra print flats.  As you can see, my look is fashionable and definitely comfortable. Tidbit: Don't be afraid to try new styles with your t-shirts.  There are numerous ways to rock a t-shirt.  Stay tuned for more posts with my graphic tees & sweaters!

My hair is in a side/high puff style with a pompadour in front.  This was an old twist out that still had definition.  I used a Goody hair band to keep in tact.

Outfit Details Here:

T-shirt: Natural Girls Rock
Sweater: Retailer Unknown (old)/similar here
Dungaree Chambray Dress: Boohoo
Shoes: Trend Mall
Purse: Express
Jewelry: earrings (Citi Trends)/ bracelets (old)

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a great week!  Today's post is pretty brief.  I wanted to share the cute shift dress I wore for Valentine's Day! My fiancé and I  decided to take a quick road trip to Galveston, Texas.  We were compelled to break away from the Houston scene and celebrate our special day early.  It was difficult trying to capture images of my outfit due to the wind! lol  I had Marilyn Monroe moments trying to keep the dress down (trust....it's not that short!) lol I wanted to be cute, yet comfortable (you know how I do).  I just love the blend of the neon pink baroque and black/white diamond prints. It was so appropriate for the day.  Other accessories include: black/silver earrings, bracelets, metal clutch purse, and black peep toe pumps.

My hair was blown out with a high puff and pompadour in front.  It was simple, yet chic.  I used a Scunci Large Upzing Double Comb to keep in place (purchased at Wal-Mart).

Outfit Details Here:

Dress; Boohoo
Shoes: Ross (old)
Clutch: Forever XXI
Earrings: Local beauty supply store
Bangles: Charlotte Russe

Good afternoon everyone!! I hope you all are having an awesome week thus far! I know I am now. Last week, I suffered from a back injury which occurred during my boot camp fitness class.  That was the most unbearable pain I have ever experienced! It was so difficult having limited ability to do things. Thanks to my hunnie, I am back on track! He was my physical therapist! Today's post showcases my personal choice of therapy......retail!  This makes me happy just as much as indulging in chocolate! #chocolatefiend lol My outfit is dressy casual. I simply adore this asymmetrical shirt purchased a while back.  I decided to pair it with skinny army green jeans and ankle strap leopard print heels.  Usually when I'm out shopping, I wear flats; however, I keep heels nearby when my days are filled with events (specifically date nights!) Other accessories include: gold jewelry and my cognac colored satchel purse.

My hair is in a simple, high puff style.  This was an old twist out that still had definition.  I used a Goody hair band to keep in tact.

Outfit Details here:

Top: New York & Company (old)/similar here
Skinnies: Rainbow
Heels: Dots
Purse: Express
Jewelry: necklace (Citi Trends)/bangles (Forever XXI)/earrings (old)/aluminum snake necklace used as bracelet (Nzuri festival 2012)

Do you find shopping therapeutic too? What are some of your favorite stores to shop? Feel free to share/comment!!

Hello everyone!  So.... this week, we are experiencing another cold front!  I tell you, this weather is so unpredictable! Regardless, I always find ways to make the most of it.  Today's outfit post showcases how I am keeping warm with my tomboyish/rebel style.  I enjoy switching up my looks and breaking away from the norm.  Making statements with casual wear is my thing!  I took a long sleeve t-shirt and made it edgy with ripped jeans and fashion combat boots.  Other accessories include: black earrings, bracelets and purse.  It doesn't take much to make a simple outfit pop!

My hair is an old twist out pushed up in a high-puff style with bangs.  I used Carol's Daughter healthy hair butter (purchased at Sephora) and a Scunci Large Upzing Double Comb to keep in place (purchased at Wal-Mart).

Outfit Details Here:

Top: Ross
Jeans: New York & Company
Boots: Forever XXI
Purse: Express
Jewelry: Dots (earrings)/bracelets (old)
Shades: Jessica Simpson (via Ross)

Mixed Prints

As much as I enjoy my relaxed and comfy looks, I do love dressing up on occasions.  There is nothing like stepping out of the house with confidence in yourself and your wardrobe!  Today's post showcases how I boldly mixed prints and made it stylish.  When I saw this $7 dress (yes, I said $7!!-lol), immediately I noticed its potential.  I knew exactly what pieces were needed to give it an edgy flare.  I layered with a black jacket and chose my black/grey leopard print purse.  Normally,  this purse is used as an accent piece with solid colors; however, there is nothing wrong with mixing patterns and making statements.  Other accessories include: silver jewelry, black tights, and black ankle strap pumps.

My hair is an old twist out pushed up in a high-puff style with bangs.  I used Carol's Daughter healthy hair butter (purchased at Sephora) and a Scunci Large Upzing Double Comb to keep in place (purchased at Wal-Mart).

Outfit Details Here:

Dress: Ross
Jacket: Ross
Tights: Rainbow
Shoes: Burlington Coat Factory (old)
Purse: New York & Company
Jewelry: New York & Company
Shades: Jessica Simpson (via Ross)
