One of my favorite staple patterns has been hounds tooth.  This pattern is definitely timeless and classic.  Everywhere you look, there it is.  Not only is it popular with fashion, but also hard goods such as: upholstery, novelties, etc.  It has it peaks; however, still remains one of the most timeless designs. I have a plethora of items with this pattern! Yes, it is by far my fave!! Today's post shows how I rocked my hounds tooth skinnies.  The look is retro with edge! There is so much you can do with hounds tooth fashion!  It can be a great accent if worn properly.  I paired my skinnies with a black jacket, canary tank top, and pointed/closed-toe heels.  My accessories include black and silver jewelry with a black purse.

My hair is in a protective/high bun style using Marley hair.   Click here to view the high bun tutorial video and products used.

Cowl Neck & Crops

Hello peeps!  This has been somewhat of a gloomy week here in Houston! We have been getting a lot of rain, so this means cool weather is on the way! Today's post is perfect for the weather shift! My shawl like sweater is timeless.  I've had it for a while and it goes with just about anything. It's lightweight and comfortable. I decided to pair it with blue crop pants (as the accent color), platform heels, and my black quilt purse.  My accessories include: silver earrings/bracelets.  Since the sweater speaks for itself, there is no need for much accessorizing.

My hair is in a twist out style with a center part.  I used Carol's Daughter  healthy hair butter for the twist out (purchased at Sephora).  When I want  "big hair,"  I use a pick to raise and lift my hair from the root. Doing so adds more volume and provides a fuller look.

Outfit Details Here:

Top: Ross (old)
Slacks: Forever XXI
Shoes: Ross (old)
Purse: Express
Jewelry: Retailers unknown (old)

Fall is my favorite season.  I love dressing for cool weather! How about you? Feel free to share/comment!

Nature's Touch

Hello everyone! I hope you're having a blessed day thus far :)  I am truly enjoying this cool weather we've been experiencing in Houston!  Don't get me wrong, it 's still warm out, but there has been a refreshing cool breeze I can't get enough of!  I'm not much of an outdoor kinda girl; however, I will shift more of my workout activity outside.  Today's post is one of my favorite looks! If you've read the La Fleur NaturElle bio, you're familiar with the fact I love earth tone colorways. This outfit blends so well with nature, it's almost camouflaged. lol   My tunic top is two-toned and has ruched detailing on each side. There is also gold embellishment on each shoulder. My tights are an alligator print which I adore! The print it bold, but not overbearing. It's the perfect accent for this look. The nude suede pumps complete the ensemble.  My accessories include: gold earrings, bracelets, and a wallet clutch. This style is versatile, so it can be considered both dressy and casual.

My hair is in a protective/high bun style using Marley hair.  Stay tuned for my instructional post later this week!

Outfit Details Here:

Top: Ross
Tights: Shasa
Pumps: Trend Mall
Wallet: Forever XXI
Jewelry: Shasa (bracelets) Retailer on Harwin (earrings)
Sunglasses: Forever XXI

Spring Fling

10/16/2013

I love the fall season; however, I am guilty of recently having a "spring fling!" lol  As I've stated many times before, a true fashionista makes her own rules!  Yes, this dress is vibrant/colorful and most would agree it is more appropriate for spring time, Well, I say... if it's okay to wear white after labor day, then it's okay to wear bright/spring like colors during  fall.  I simply adore this bodycon dress due to the psychedelic look and snake print pattern.  This type of outfit does not require much accessorizing since it is so busy. The look is fun, so you can pretty much determine it would be ideal for a night out on the town.

My hair is in a new protective style!  Many are shocked when I reveal this bun isn't my hair! It's Marley hair!! Yes honey!!! lol I seldom wear hair extensions unless I have micro braids/cornrows.  I watched a few YouTube videos a while back and that is when I discovered Marley hair.  Even though I knew about it, I never purchased any until a few months ago.  My good friend Reign had a high bun using this hair.  I fell in love with it, especially after she explained how easy it was to apply.  This is a great protective style and extremely easy to create.  Stay tuned for a post on how to create this high bun/protective style! Trust me, you'll fall in love with it too :)

Outfit Details Here:

Dress: Boohoo
Shoes: gifted (similar here)
Coin Purse: New York & Company
Jewelry: Forever XXI

Are you making your own rules with fashion too? What about protective hair styles? What is your favorite?

Boss Ladylike

"Act like a lady, think like a BOSS!"-Unknown.... I know where I want to be in life and what it takes to get there.  Women are running things and there is nothing wrong with being fashionable while doing so!  Today's post is my bold yet feminine office look! Of course wearing only a  tank top wouldn't necessarily suffice in the workplace; however, you can always layer with a blazer or sweater.  Animal prints and bold patterns make statements that cannot be ignored, especially in the office.  It says you're daring, but in control!  I love taking risks when it comes to fashion.  A true fashionista doesn't follow protocol. She moves to her own beat!  My attire consists of a leopard print tank top, A-line skirt, and platform heels. I accented the look with gold accessories and a sequin coin purse.  This look is ideal for professional gatherings, mixer's, etc.

My hairstyle is a high bun with a pompadour in front. **I promise my hair was in tact prior to the photo shoot (very windy that morning).** lol  Check out this YouTube video by Alicia James.  She shares with us 10 (easy to create) formal hairstyles for natural hair.

Cute In Cut Offs

Good morning!!  I am loving this fall weather!  Although the temperature has dropped, it's still warm enough to wear summer gear.  Today's post shows how I rocked a pair of old Levi shorts and made it fashionable.  if you're anything like me, there are certain pieces you just can't seem to part ways with.  Well, that is exactly how I feel about these shorts.  If I'm not mistaken, I purchased these back in 2007 and they're still cute!  I accented the shorts with a white t-shirt top, metallic snake skinned pumps, and a multi-colored (tan & dark brown) purse.  My jewelry includes brown threaded earrings and silver bangles.  I always find the cutest earrings at beauty supply stores!

My hair is in a twist out style with an afro look.  I used Hawaiian Silky 14-n-1 to for the twist out.  When I want "big hair," I use a pick to raise and lift my hair from the root. Doing so adds more volume and provides a fuller look.  I love the versatility of natural hair.

Outfit Details Here:

Top: New York & Company
Shorts: Levi's (purchased @ Ross)-old
Shoes: Nine West (purchased @ Ross)
Belt: Academy Sports & Outdoors -old
Purse: Coach (purchased @ Dillard's)
Jewelry: Local beauty supply (earrings)/ Shasa (bracelets)

What are pieces you have been holding on to?  Feel free to share!

Until next time...

Good morning everyone!!  As always, I hope you are having a great week thus far!  Today's post recaps 5 of my favorite looks from earlier this year!  As you all know, I love being cute/casual and I love to dress up with outfits that require minimal accessorizing.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy everything fashion; however, I am usually in a "I need a quick look" predicament so I opt for styles that are fashionable and easy to hook up.

Let's take a quick trip down memory lane.... click on the image to view the actual post!

Feel free to comment and share! Once again, I appreciate the support :)

Welcome Back Fall!

Omg!! I'm soooo excited we have made it to the fall season!  This is simply my favorite time of the year! I love warm colorways and dressing for cold weather.  Today's outfit post shows how you can transition from summer to fall wearing summer pieces.  I took a regular maxi dress (purchased for summer wear) and layered it with a denim jacket.  I accented the look with a few bangles, a multi-colored purse, necklace, and shoes. Tidbit: Don't be afraid to incorporate your summer gear with fall pieces.  I do it all the time, especially when it comes to layering.

My hair style is a simple high puff with bangs.  This is the easiest to create when I don't feel like dealing with the natural. #lazy days....

Outfit Details Here:

Maxi: Forever XXI
Denim Jacket: Rainbow
Shoes: Ross
Purse: House of Dereon (Citi Trends)-old
Jewelry: necklace/bangles (local beauty supply store)/earrings (Natural Girls Rock)

Stay tuned for J'ai's Faves post coming soon!

Until next time....
